|Description|| SAFANSI (South Asia Food and Nutrition Security Initiative) program is being implemented by a network named BEES (Business, Enterprise and Employment Support) in South Asia, and supported by the World Bank. The objective of SAFANSI is to improve the food and nutrition security situation in South Asia, to increase the commitment of governments and development partners to more effective and integrated food and nutrition ‚Äď related policies and investments.
In Bangladesh, Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) is implementing the program in food crisis areas of two Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) districts (Bandarban and Rangamati) through four MJF partner NGOs where severe seasonal food crisis exists. MJF successfully completed the first phase of SAFANSI from November 2013 to 2016. It was a small scale pilot project with following activities:
‚ÄĘ A study on ‚ÄėFood Security and Nutrition and Gap Analysis‚Äô
‚ÄĘ Development of toolkit, child to child learning material, street theatre with the participation of target community;
‚ÄĘ Trainers‚Äô Training (ToT) to 15 trainers from partner NGOs
‚ÄĘ Total 3539 pregnant and lactating mothers including men and women received training
‚ÄĘ Nutrition demonstration sessions
‚ÄĘ Eight nutrition shops were established to make nutritious food available at remote places.
Second phase was started from May 2017 to improve diet diversity and intake of nutritious indigenous foods among targeted communities. MJF partnered with Digital Green (an Indian based Social Enterprise) to develop low cost participatory videos with nutrition messages. Five videos were developed with community participation. 2065 beneficiaries including pregnant and lactating mothers, men and women from five sub-districts at Rangamati and Bandarban district participated in the dissemination sessions. The duration of SAFANSI phase II is extended till September 2018.

Training of Facilitators (TOF) to the nutrition agents at supervisory level staff on video production and dissemination;
