Launching of the ‘Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership’ project in Bangladesh

Today in Dhaka, during Manusher Jonno Foundation’s launch event of the “Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership in Bangladesh” project, the High Commission of Canada in Bangladesh highlighted Canada’s commitment of $9.7M (CAD) in funding for the project, announced earlier on March 8, 2025, marking International Women’s Day. Building on the success of the first Women’s Voice and Leadership project, this new initiative seeks to expand its reach strengthening even more women’s rights organizations, bolstering the role of organizations led by women and marginalized minority communities into the national conversation at this critical time.

H.E. Ajit Singh, High Commissioner of Canada took this opportunity to emphasize how “Canada proudly supports this initiative as a key component of our commitment to advancing gender equality, empowering women and girls and building a more inclusive society in Bangladesh.”

While the initiative launch was taking place, Shaheen Anam, Executive Director of Manusher Jonno Foundation, in her welcoming speech, expressed gratitude to Global Affairs Canada for renewing “Women’s Voice and Leadership in Bangladesh”. She underscored that gender equality is not only a women’s issue but a path towards ensuring human rights, justice and inclusive development. To achieve this, all stakeholders must work together in cooperation and solidarity. 

While addressing as the chief guest, the Adviser to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Sharmeen S. Murshid said, “We need to support the grassroot-level organizations to empower women, the way Manusher Jonno Foundation MJF does, and we should have a policy where both government and non-government organizations coordinate together to achieve national priorities.”

The High Commission of Canada in Bangladesh and Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) were joined by representatives from more than 50 organizations, including women’s rights organizations, women’s networks, and marginalized minority communities, attended the project inauguration, organized by Manusher Jonno Foundation.

বাংলাদেশে ‘Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership’ প্রকল্পের উদ্বোধন

ঢাকা, মে ২৭, ২০২৫: মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশনের নবায়িত প্রকল্প ‘Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership’ -এর উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে, আজ (মঙ্গলবার) ঢাকায় বাংলাদেশে কানাডার হাই কমিশন এই প্রকল্পের জন্য ৯.৭ মিলিয়ন কানাডিয়ান ডলার (CAD) অর্থায়নের প্রতিশ্রুতি পুনর্ব্যক্ত করে। এই প্রতিশ্রুতির ঘোষণা আসে আন্তর্জাতিক নারী দিবসে (৮ মার্চ ২০২৫)। প্রথম Women’s Voice and Leadership প্রকল্পের সাফল্যের ভিত্তিতে নবায়িত উদ্যোগটি আরও বিস্তৃত পরিসরে কাজ করবে। নারীর অধিকার নিয়ে কাজ করা সংগঠনগুলোকে শক্তিশালী করার পাশাপাশি নারী নেতৃত্বাধীন এবং প্রান্তিক সম্প্রদায়ের সংগঠনগুলোর জাতীয় আলোচনায় (National Conversation) অংশগ্রহণ নিশ্চিত করার লক্ষ্যে কাজ করবে।

বাংলাদেশে নিযুক্ত কানাডার হাই কমিশনার মান্যবর অজিত সিং বলেন, “নারীর ক্ষমতায়ন, জেন্ডার সমতা এবং একটি অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক সমাজ গঠনে আমাদের অঙ্গীকারের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ হিসেবে কানাডা গর্বের সঙ্গে এই উদ্যোগকে সমর্থন করছে।”

উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশনের নির্বাহী পরিচালক শাহীন আনাম তাঁর স্বাগত বক্তব্যে “Women’s Voice and Leadership” প্রকল্পটি পুনরায় শুরু করায় গ্লোবাল অ্যাফেয়ার্স কানাডার প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করেন। তিনি জোর দিয়ে বলেন, লিঙ্গ সমতা কেবল নারীদের বিষয় নয় বরং এটি মানবাধিকার, ন্যায়বিচার এবং অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক উন্নয়নের পথে অগ্রসর হওয়ার একটি মাধ্যম। এই লক্ষ্য অর্জনে সব অংশীজনের (Stakeholders) সহযোগিতা ও ঐক্য প্রয়োজন।

প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্যে মহিলা ও শিশু বিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয়ের উপদেষ্টা শারমীন এস মুরশিদ বলেন, “নারীর ক্ষমতায়নের জন্য আমাদের দরকার তৃণমূলের সংগঠনগুলোকে সহযোগিতা করা, যেভাবে মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশন করে থাকে। আমার মনে হয় সময় এসেছে সরকার ও বেসরকারি প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোর জন্য একটি নীতিমালা থাকা উচিত। এবং আমাদের এমন একটি নীতি থাকা উচিত যেখানে সরকার এবং বেসরকারি (এনজিও) উভয় সংস্থা জাতীয় অগ্রাধিকার অর্জনের জন্য একসাথে সমন্বয় করবে।”

বাংলাদেশে কানাডার হাই কমিশন এবং মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশনের আয়োজনে অনুষ্ঠিত এই প্রকল্প উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে ৫০ টিরও বেশি সংগঠনের প্রতিনিধিরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন, যার মধ্যে নারী অধিকারভিত্তিক সংগঠন, নারী নেটওয়ার্ক এবং প্রান্তিক সংখ্যালঘু সম্প্রদায়ের প্রতিনিধিরাও ছিলেন। অনুষ্ঠানে সাংস্কৃতিক পরিবেশনা সহ জেন্ডার সমতা আনয়নে তৃণমূলের কণ্ঠস্বর বিষয়ক (Amplifying Grassroot Voices “Shaping the Future of Gender Equality”) – বিষয়ক প্যানেল আলোচনা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।
