MJF Gets Parveen Mahmud as New Chairperson

Dhaka | March 23, 2025: Parveen Mahmud has been elected as the Chairperson of Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF), a leading organization dedicated to promoting human rights and good governance. She assumed office on March 23 after previously serving as a member of MJF’s governing body.

Parveen Mahmud is a trailblazer in Bangladesh’s financial and development sectors. She holds the distinction of being the first woman to become President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) in 2011 and the first female President and board member of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), the apex accounting body of SAARC. Additionally, she founded the CA Female Forum – Women in Leadership Committee, ICAB in 2017, and served as Vice Chairperson of SAFA’s Women in Leadership Committee until 2019.

Throughout her distinguished career, Ms. Mahmud has made significant contributions to both the private and development sectors. She began her professional journey with BRAC and later served as Partner at ACNABIN & Co., Deputy Managing Director of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), and Founding Managing Director of Grameen Telecom Trust. She is currently the Managing Director of Shasha Garments Ltd. and Chairperson of RDRS Bangladesh.

Ms. Mahmud also holds leadership roles on numerous boards, including BRAC International, Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), and Bishsho Shahitto Kendro (BSK), where she is the first female trustee. She is also actively involved with Friendship, HerStory Foundation, Moner Bondhu, and Cider International School. Additionally, she serves as an Independent Director at Marico Bangladesh, Apex Footwear Ltd., and Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd.

Her contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards. Recently, she was honored with the Top 50 Professional and Career Women Award 2023 – Sri Lanka, in the Leadership in Finance and Accounting category. Her previous accolades include the Anannya Top Ten Award (2019), Begum Rokeya Shining Personality Award (2006), Joya Alokit Nari Award (2018), and awards from BASIS and BOLD for her contributions to women’s empowerment.

Ms. Mahmud has also been a driving force in promoting small and medium enterprises (SMEs). She served as a founding member of the SME Foundation and convener of the SME Women’s Forum. Furthermore, she has worked with UNCTAD/ISAR’s Consultative Group on Social Indicators.

With her extensive experience in finance, development, and women’s empowerment, Ms. Mahmud’s election as Chairperson is expected to enhance MJF’s efforts in promoting rights, governance, and social equity across Bangladesh.

Notably, renowned industrialist Syed Manzur Elahi served as the Chairperson of MJF for a long time. He passed away on March 12 at a hospital in Singapore. Parveen Mahmud will succeed him as the new Chairperson.

মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশনের (এমজেএফ) চেয়ারপারসন হিসেবে নির্বাচিত হলেন পারভীন মাহমুদ

ঢাকা, ২৩ মার্চ ২০২৫: মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশন (এমজেএফ)-এর চেয়ারপারসন হিসেবে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে দায়িত্ব গ্রহণ করেছেন পারভীন মাহমুদ। রোববার (২৩ মার্চ) এ পদে মনোনীত হওয়ার আগে তিনি এমজেএফ-এর পরিচালনা পর্ষদের সদস্য হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করছিলেন।

পারভীন মাহমুদ বাংলাদেশের আর্থিক এবং উন্নয়ন খাতে একজন পথিকৃৎ। তিনি ইন্সটিটিউট অব চার্টার্ড অ্যাকাউন্ট্যান্টস অব বাংলাদেশ (আইসিএবি)-এর প্রথম নারী প্রেসিডেন্ট (২০১১) এবং সাউথ এশিয়ান ফেডারেশন অব অ্যাকাউন্ট্যান্টস (SAFA)-এর প্রথম নারী বোর্ড সদস্য এবং প্রথম নারী প্রেসিডেন্ট হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন। ২০১৭ সালে তিনি সিএ ফিমেল ফোরাম – উইমেন ইন লিডারশিপ কমিটি, আইসিএবি প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন এবং ২০১৯ সাল পর্যন্ত সাফা উইমেন ইন লিডারশিপ কমিটি-র ভাইস চেয়ারপারসন হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন।

তার বর্ণাঢ্য ক্যারিয়ারে পারভীন মাহমুদ উন্নয়ন ও বেসরকারি খাতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রেখেছেন। ক্যারিয়ারের শুরুতে তিনি ব্র্যাকে কাজ করেন। এরপর তিনি এসিএনএবিআইএন অ্যান্ড কো., চার্টার্ড অ্যাকাউন্ট্যান্টস-এর পার্টনার, পল্লী কর্ম-সহায়ক ফাউন্ডেশন (পিকেএসএফ)-এর ডেপুটি ম্যানেজিং ডিরেক্টর এবং গ্রামীণ টেলিকম ট্রাস্ট-এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ম্যানেজিং ডিরেক্টর হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। বর্তমানে তিনি শাশা গার্মেন্টস লিমিটেডের ম্যানেজিং ডিরেক্টর এবং আরডিআরএস বাংলাদেশ-এর চেয়ারপারসন। বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠানের পরিচালনা পর্ষদেও তিনি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করছেন। এর মধ্যে উল্লেখযোগ্য হলো ব্র্যাক ইন্টারন্যাশনাল, সেন্টার ফর পলিসি ডায়ালগ (সিপিডি) এবং বিশ্ব সাহিত্য কেন্দ্র (বিএসকে)-এর প্রথম নারী বোর্ড সদস্য হিসেবে। তিনি ফ্রেন্ডশিপ, হারস্টোরি ফাউন্ডেশন, মনের বন্ধু, হিরোজ ফর অল এবং সিডার ইন্টারন্যাশনাল স্কুলের বোর্ডেও যুক্ত। এছাড়া তিনি ম্যারিকো বাংলাদেশ, অ্যাপেক্স ফুটওয়্যার লিমিটেড এবং বার্জার পেইন্টস বাংলাদেশ লিমিটেডের স্বতন্ত্র পরিচালক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করছেন।

তার অসামান্য অবদানের স্বীকৃতিস্বরূপ পারভীন মাহমুদ বিভিন্ন পুরস্কার পেয়েছেন। সম্প্রতি তিনি লিডারশিপ ইন ফাইন্যান্স অ্যান্ড অ্যাকাউন্টিং ক্যাটাগরিতে টপ ৫০ প্রফেশনাল অ্যান্ড ক্যারিয়ার উইমেন অ্যাওয়ার্ড ২০২৩ – শ্রীলঙ্কা অর্জন করেছেন। এর আগে তিনি অনন্যা শীর্ষদশ সম্মাননা ২০১৯, বেগম রোকেয়া শাইনিং পার্সোনালিটি অ্যাওয়ার্ড (২০০৬), জয়া আলোকিত নারী পুরস্কার (২০১৮) এবং বেসিস এবং বোল্ড থেকে নারী ক্ষমতায়নে অবদানের জন্য পুরস্কার পেয়েছেন।

ছোট ও মাঝারি উদ্যোক্তা (এসএমই) খাতের উন্নয়নে তিনি উল্লেখযোগ্য ভূমিকা রেখেছেন। তিনি এসএমই ফাউন্ডেশনের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা বোর্ড সদস্য এবং এসএমই উইমেনস ফোরামের আহ্বায়ক ছিলেন। জাতিসংঘের ইউএনসিটিএডি/আইএসএআরের কনসালটেটিভ গ্রুপ অন সোশ্যাল ইন্ডিকেটরস-এর ওয়ার্কিং গ্রুপের সদস্য হিসেবেও তিনি দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন।

নারী ক্ষমতায়ন, আর্থিক উন্নয়ন এবং সামাজিক ন্যায়বিচারের প্রতি তার দীর্ঘদিনের অবদানের মাধ্যমে পারভীন মাহমুদের নেতৃত্বে মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশন (এমজেএফ) আরও শক্তিশালী ভূমিকা পালন করবে বলে আশা করা হচ্ছে।

উল্লেখ্য, বিশিষ্ট শিল্পপতি সৈয়দ মঞ্জুর এলাহী দীর্ঘদিন এমজেএফ- এর চেয়ারপার্সন হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন। গত ১২ মার্চ সিঙ্গাপুরের একটি হাসপাতালে তিনি শেষ নিঃশ্বাস ত্যাগ করেন। পারভীন মাহমুদ সাবেক চেয়ারপারসনের স্থলাভিশিক্ত হবেন।
