MJF Demands Justice for 15-Year-Old Rape and Murder Victim

Dhaka, 27 February: Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) expresses deep anger, concern, and strong protest over the killing of a 15-year-old girl who was forcibly taken from her father after seeking justice for rape in Narsingdi. MJF demands justice for victims and ensure perpetrators are held to account.

This incident once again proves that the safety of women and children in the country is under extreme threat. According to media reports, the girl had been assaulted 15 days earlier by a group of 5–6 individuals led by a local perpetrator. Seeking justice, the family had approached a former member of the local Union Parishad, but they did not receive any support; instead, they were allegedly asked to leave the area.

The victim’s father stated that his daughter was forcibly taken away in front of him. After hours of searching, he found her body the following morning.

Meanwhile, in the West Ulon area of Dhaka, the body of a six-year-old girl was recovered from stagnant water in the empty lift shaft of an under-construction building. Relatives and locals alleged that the child had been abused and killed before being left at the site. The family claimed that when they first attempted to file a case, the police hesitated. Later, when outraged locals surrounded the police station, the case was finally accepted at around 11 pm.

According to data from Ain o Salish Kendra, just last month, 35 children were subjected to various forms of violence and abuse, and 25 children were killed. On average, nearly one child each becomes a victim of such crimes every day.

MJF believes that such brutality against women and children is absolutely unacceptable. MJF calls upon the newly elected government to fulfill its election pledge of ensuring justice for all and protection of women and children. At the same time, immediate protection must be ensured for the family of the teenage girl who was assaulted and killed.

MJF firmly believes that only exemplary punishment for such crimes can prevent future offenders and help establish justice and dignity for women in society. Now is the time to speak out against injustice.

নরসিংদীতে ১৫ বছর বয়সী এক কিশোরীকে ধর্ষণ ও হত্যার ঘটনায় দ্রুত বিচারের দাবি মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশনের

ঢাকা, ২৭ ফেব্রুয়ারী: নরসিংদীতে ধর্ষণের বিচার চাওয়ায় ১৫ বছর বয়সী এক কিশোরীকে বাবার কাছ থেকে তুলে নিয়ে হত্যার ঘটনায় মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশন (এমজেএফ) গভীর ক্ষোভ, উদ্বেগ ও তীব্র প্রতিবাদ জানাচ্ছে। এমজেএফ ভুক্তভোগীর জন্য ন্যায়বিচার এবং অপরাধীদের জবাবদিহির আওতায় এনে শাস্তি নিশ্চিত করার আহ্বান জানাচ্ছে।

এই ঘটনা আবারও প্রমাণ করে, দেশে নারী ও শিশুর নিরাপত্তা চরম হুমকির মুখে। গণমাধ্যমের সুত্র মতে ঐ কিশোরী ১৫ দিন আগে স্থানীয় এক বখাটের নেতৃত্বে ৫-৬ জনের একটি দল দ্বারা ধর্ষণের শিকার হয়।  এ ঘটনার বিচারের জন্য স্থানীয় ইউনিয়ন পরিষদের সাবেক সদস্যের শরণাপন্ন হয় ওই কিশোরীর পরিবার। তবে বিচার পায়নি পরিবারটি। তাদের এলাকা ছেড়ে চলে যেতে বলা হয়েছিল বলে অভিযোগ।

নিহত কিশোরীর বাবা অভিযোগ করেন যে তার সামনে থেকে মেয়েকে জোরপূর্বক তুলে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। পরে অনেক খোঁজাখুঁজির পর সকালে মেয়ের লাশ খুঁজে পান।

এদিকে রাজধানীর পশ্চিম উলন এলাকায় একটি নির্মাণাধীন ভবনের লিফটের ফাঁকা জায়গায় জমে থাকা পানি থেকে ছয় বছর বয়সী কন্যাশিশুর মরদেহ উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে। স্বজন ও স্থানীয়দের অভিযোগ, শিশুটিকে নিপীড়নের পর হত্যা করে ওই স্থানে ফেলে রাখা হয়েছে। পরিবারের দাবি, থানায় মামলা করতে গেলে প্রথমে পুলিশ গড়িমসি করে। পরে বিক্ষুব্ধ এলাকাবাসী ঘেরাও করলে রাত ১১টার দিকে পুলিশ মামলা গ্রহণ করে।

আইন ও সালিশ কেন্দ্রের তথ্য বলছে খোদ গত মাসে, ৩৫ জন শিশু বিভিন্ন ধরনের নির্যাতন ও সহিংসতার শিকার হয়েছে। এছাড়া ২৫ জন শিশু হত্যার শিকার হয়েছে। উভয় ঘটনায় গড়ে প্রায় ১ জন করে প্রতিদিন অপরাধের শিকার।

মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশন মনে করে, নারী ও শিশুর প্রতি এমন বর্বরতা কোনোভাবেই গ্রহণযোগ্য নয়। এমজেএফ নবনির্বাচিত সরকারের প্রতি আহ্বান জানাচ্ছে, তারা যেন তাদের নির্বাচনী অঙ্গীকার অনুযায়ী সবার জন্য ন্যায়বিচার নিশ্চিত করে এবং নারী ও শিশুদের সুরক্ষা প্রদান করে। একইসাথে, ধর্ষণ ও হত্যার শিকার কিশোরী পরিবারের প্রয়োজনীয় নিরাপত্তা অবিলম্বে নিশ্চিত করতে হবে।

মানুষের জন্য ফাউন্ডেশন দৃঢ়ভাবে বিশ্বাস করে—এই অপরাধের দৃষ্টান্তমূলক শাস্তিই পারে ভবিষ্যতের ধর্ষকদের রুখে দিতে এবং সমাজে ন্যায়বিচার ও নারীর মর্যাদা প্রতিষ্ঠা করতে। এখনই সময়, অন্যায়ের বিরুদ্ধে সোচ্চার হওয়ার।
